Role-based access: admin, instructor, student
Flight Lyceum uses three roles to ensure each person sees exactly what they need: no more, no less. Here's a full breakdown of permissions by role.
Admin
Admins have full access to the organisation. Typically your Head of Training, Chief Flying Instructor, or Compliance Officer.
- All compliance monitoring features: pipeline, review queue, regulation sources.
- All flight book features: upload, index, create versions, export.
- All training management features: programmes, lessons, assignments, acknowledgements, signoffs.
- Organisation settings: branding, custom sources, automation schedule.
- User management: invite, change roles, remove users.
- Billing: view plan, add student packs, update payment, cancel subscription.
Instructor
Instructors can manage training and review compliance but cannot change organisation settings or billing.
- View and process items in the compliance review queue (but not approve major manual updates: admin approval is required for those).
- View flight books and section content.
- Create and edit training programmes, phases, and lessons.
- Assign reading to lessons.
- View and export acknowledgement records.
- Record instructor sign-offs.
- Send student reminders.
Student
Students have a read-only view scoped to their own training assignments.
- View assigned reading for each lesson.
- Read manual sections assigned to their lessons.
- Mark sections as acknowledged.
- View their own acknowledgement history.
- View their training programme and lesson schedule.
Tip: Students cannot see other students' data, compliance monitoring, or any settings. Their interface is intentionally simplified to show only what's relevant to them.
Changing a user's role
Admins can change any team member's role at any time from Settings → Users. Role changes take effect immediately.
Note: Reducing an admin to instructor or student removes their access to settings and billing immediately. Make sure at least one other admin account exists before doing this.
